As 2019 wraps up, I wanted to take a moment to reflect back on some of my main accomplishments and also set my goals for 2020. This past year definitely opened a lot of doors in my life and I hope 2020 also does the same.
2019 Reflection
- Finished my first year of University
- Won an API prize at my first Hackathon
- My website/blog took off (currently with 12,000+ views)
- Got my first co-op job
- Met lots of new people, some of which are my really close friends at the moment
Career

I definitely want 2020 to be the year where my future career takes off. It starts right now with the co-op hunt for summer 2020. My goal is to hopefully land a Software Engineering job either in Toronto or somewhere in the USA (cali or bust? 👀). So far it is just rejections and very few interviews.
I also want to start coding every day and also track that progress. To do this, I will be using my Github profile. Each time I work on a project or update my previous projects, it will show up on the chart shown below. So far, I have been consistently coding every day for about a month.

School

In first year, I found myself shying away from clubs and extracurriculars because I really wanted to focus on school and getting good grades. Maybe that seemed like a good idea at first, but I found myself doing better in school after joining my first intramural team. It took all the stress away and gave me something to look forward to each week. For 2020, I would like to get more involved in the Skule community, participate in more clubs and after school activities.
At the moment I am on captaining the F!rosh soccer team, a member of the ECE ambassador team, and a F!rosh Week leedur (yes, it is spelled like this).
Other than extracurriculars and clubs, I want to pull my grades up a bit. Second year ECE has already taken a toll on my average. My main school goal is to learn lecture material prior to attending the lectures.
Website/Blog
Over the past year, this website has really taken off, especially after my last post. I have literally received 100s of emails from prospective students. I even got an offer to blog for a student life company and get paid for it. My future plans with this site are to post more, but I don’t know how that will go with the hardest semester of ECE coming up haha.
In addition, I am working on making another website from scratch where everything will be in one place – my blog posts, personal projects, and etc.
Health

Maybe 2019 has not been the year of being the healthiest 😅, but let’s try to change that in 2020? My goals are to eat less Popeyes and to play more soccer.
I also want to get in the habit of only drinking water rather than soda and pop. I will start by carrying a water bottle with me everywhere I go so I can resist the urge to drink soda.
My sleeping schedule is also kind of destroyed at the moment, so I want to have a consistent sleeping pattern for the upcoming semester (no more all nighters, no more all nighters).
Travel

I love to travel and always find myself watching travel vlogs during my free time. I definitely see myself travelling after second semester exams and also before the next school year begins.
Places I really want to go to (not necessarily this year):
- Budapest, Hungary
- Venice, Italy
- Greece
- England
- Turkey
- Thailand
- Dubai
- Bali, Indonesia
- and basically every other country in the world
Conclusion
Although I have many goals set up for myself, I think it is better to have them written down, so you are more inclined to achieve them rather than just thinking about them in your head. Let’s see if I can keep up with them.
Have a great New Years and Happy Holidays!
